Who We Are

Learn about our mission, vision & strategy.

Welcome to Fair Oaks. We are a multi-generational church, united by our pursuit of becoming like Jesus together. Our church is built on the conviction that Jesus is alive, that he loves us, and that his love really can change your life.

One of the best ways to get to know what kind of church we are is to visit us this Sunday at 10 am.

Our Mission

We exist to glorify God by being and making disciples of Jesus.

These 12 words are what Fair Oaks is all about, so let’s break them down:

+ To glorify God

Church isn’t ultimately about what we want, what we get out of it, or even what we accomplish. It’s about God. We exist to worship him, make his goodness known, and point people to him. This is the purpose for which everything in the universe exists, and the more we dial into this, the more it gives weight and meaning to all we do.

+ by being disciples of Jesus

Jesus gave his church one mission: to make disciples. So at Fair Oaks, we’re all about discipleship, which we define as a lifelong journey of becoming like Jesus. Before you can take others on that journey, you have to be walking it yourself. That’s what we mean when we say we exist to be disciples: we’re here to help one another continue growing in a life-changing relationship with Jesus.

+ and making disciples of Jesus

But of course we don’t keep this journey to ourselves. Like the first Christians, we live with an outward focus—introducing our friends, neighbors, coworkers, and family to Jesus, inviting them into a life-changing relationship with him, and walking alongside them as they learn to follow him.

Our Vision

In Diablo Valley for Diablo Valley, to the ends of the earth.

We often say we pursue this mission in Diablo Valley for Diablo Valley, to the ends of the earth. This is our vision for our church and summarizes for us what’s at stake in our mission:

+ In Diablo Valley, for Diablo Valley

The more Jesus changes our lives, the more we show up differently in our relationships, neighborhoods, and workplaces. The more that happens, the more life in this valley will be transformed to reflect God’s goodness and love. We are a church that is on mission in the valley for the sake of the valley.

+ To the Ends of the Earth

Like the first Christians, we also have an eye to spreading the good news of God’s love far beyond our local community. So even as we pursue this mission in Diablo Valley, we also send missionaries around the world, to spread the good news of God’s love to the ends of the earth.

This is God’s plan to transform our world until Jesus comes back to make all things new, and we are excited to be a part of it! It’s a God-sized mission, and there’s a role for you to play. Keep scrolling to learn how.

Here’s why we’re so excited about pursuing our mission together:

Our Strategy

We GATHER, GROW, & GO.

Our philosophy of ministry is simple.
We do 3 things as a church, that can be summed up as the 3 G’s:

+ We GATHER to worship Jesus.

Every Sunday, we gather as the church to worship God and celebrate the life he’s given us through Jesus Christ. As we open the Scriptures to learn about Jesus, lift our voices to him in song, and share communion together, our souls are lifted to remember who God is, how he has loved us, and that the truly good life is found in him. Sundays are a key part of our life with Jesus, fueling our walk with him all week long (Hebrews 10:24-25).

+ We GROW as disciples of Jesus together.

Life with Jesus is about more than knowing about him or having meaningful spiritual experiences; it’s ultimately about becoming like him (Colossians 1:27-28). The primary way we will be pursuing this as a church is through a mid-week discipleship course launching in January called Be A Disciple.

+ We GO into everyday life as missionaries for Jesus.

Our growth doesn’t end with us; God works in our lives to bring his life and love to the world around us (1 Peter 2:9). As a church, we’re intentional about equipping our members to live as a missionaries all week long in the workplaces, neighborhoods, schools, and relationships Jesus has sent them into. We also host outreach events throughout the year where you can invite the people you’re building relationships with to experience the goodness of life with Jesus and his people.
